If we considered in broad way there are nine different trekking alternatives with in Annapurna Region. Out of those available Annapurna Trekking Routes there are two trekking destination that cannot be trek without guide where as other destination within Annapurna can be trek without guide. Annapurna Circuit Trek and Annapurna Base Camp is heavily trekked region where Ghorepani Poonhill also attract lots of trekkers every year. Trail to Tilicho Lake is quite risk because area is prone to landslide. Although it is possible to trek without guide it is recommended to hire guide for Annapurna Circuit as well as for Tilicho Lake. Upper Mustang and Nar Phu Valley are more remote and had open border to Tibet it is under restricted region categories. One cannot trek Upper Mustang and Nar Phu Valley on their own where as rest region are ok.

In order to trek in Annapurna one need to obtain TIMS and ACAP entry permits. It is recommended to obtain necessary permits in Kathmandu as you we will have free time in Kathmandu but when you go to Pokhara it might be bit rush and one will be running out of time. Close east of Annapurna Range there lies another mountain range name Manaslu that is also quite famous trekking and it is also not possible for Manaslu Trek Without Guide. Before you go for trek on your own always manage permit, buy a map, inform to your local address as well as your embassy.
